What’s amazing to me is that the original members of Rising Up Angry were in their 20’s. Michael James, one of the founders, was an elder of the group at 27 years old. My mother, Stormy Libman, was the eldest at 29. The rest of the members were in their early 20’s. This is a time when most people are settling into jobs, dating, hanging out with friends, going to bars, traveling, living life. Although all of the members had to get day jobs, a large part of their energy was joining the Revolution. To me, that is pretty profound.

It speaks to how much they cared, how much they were ANGRY, about the Vietnam War, about the assasinations of Dr. Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and Chicago Black Panther Party Chairman Fred Hampton. The War and the Civil Rights movement were the primary catalysts that brought them together. But once the organization took root, there was a lot to be ANGRY about; police brutality, exploitation of farm workers, Women’s Rights, Human Rights, marginalization of the people of the First Nations, shitty healthcare, government corruption, slum lords, a broken judicial system, the school to prison pipeline.

Although progress was made in some of these areas, there have been setbacks in all of these areas. It’s my hope that this website will provide inspiration to this generation of progressive leaders.

So, per the closing of the first article in volume 1 issue 1, SPREAD THE WORD, EVERYWHERE. GET IT ON, DO IT.
